 Miss Alma Emma Cook, 96, died Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care. Miss Cook was born August 26, 1915, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late Gladys Rankin Cook and William Joseph Cook, Sr. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School and Draughon’s Business School. Miss Cook retired after 33 years from the Accounts Payable Department of Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, GA. She was most proud of her work with children at the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home in Hapeville, GA and also her work at Brookley Field in Mobile, AL on B-17’s during World War II. She was a lifelong Baptist and a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia, where she was very involved through the Lamplighter Sunday School Class and The Joy Club. Miss Cook was also a member of the Ancient Irmese Red Hatters. She was affectionately known as “Auntie” to all of her nieces and nephews and the rest of her family. She was a presence in their lives that was very special and will never be forgotten. Survivors: 5 nieces, Joann Gamble Sanders (Bobby) of Florence, Alma Gamble Dupont of Columbia, Theresa Gamble Lassiter of Spartanburg, Gladys Gamble Cousar (Wayne) of Beaufort, and Lorena Cook James (Doug) of North; 1 nephew, Joseph Terrell Cook, Sr. (Patsy) of Matthews, NC.; and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Minnie Bell Cook and Thelma Cook Gamble Munn, 2 brothers, William Joseph Cook, Jr. and Cecil Rankin Cook, and one niece, Frances Gamble Gilliam. Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday December 13, 2011, graveside in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Greeleyville, SC and the family will receive visitors after the service in the cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Columbia. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Williamsburg Funeral Home of Kingstree.
