Each year Williamsburg Funeral Home hosts a memorial service for the community. Usually held on the Sunday afternoon after Thanksgiving, this program serves as a memorial to loved ones lost during the past year but also supports family and friends with a message of hope and love to those of us facing the holiday season without someone we love. The funeral home is decorated for the holidays with a large “Memory Tree” in the lobby. Ministers from the local community conduct the service and the message is one of hope with particular guidance on how to get through the holiday season after the loss of a loved one. Our talented local musicians offer several selections and sometimes a family member will share a poem. Following the service the congregation will gather across the hall to enjoy light refreshments and greet one another. As each person leaves, he or she is given an ornament, usually an angel, to place on the tree in the lobby or to take home to place on their own tree.. Each ornament is placed as a memorial to a loved one lost in the past year or for some yearly attendees, a loved one still remembered. |
